First you played a part in that craze of poker which saw middle schoolers forfeiting their lunches in exchange to play texas hold em' at their lunch tables, by broadcasting the World Series of Poker in prime time on ESPN. I always thought this type of stuff should be relegated to ESPN2 in the afternoon mixed up with some 1993 NBA highlight show. I let that slide by simply choosing to watch another channel, prehaps a movie or some law & order (which only have commercials every 6.5 minutes). Now I can't let this slide, as you have decided to double up your World Series servings by having the aforementioned, and now Word Series of Darts (!?!?!?), BOTH in prime time?!?! Lets just add Bowling to that mix and maybe some World Series of Golden Tee competitions live from an Alabama watering hole and I won't ever need another channel on my TV. I really want to know the demographics who are enticed by the fact they can watch Darts on TV, I'm sure they are top notch members of society that also buy ESPN mobile, ESPN gatorade, ESPN board games. Oh and if you say these are legit 'sports' how come they don't get a peep of coverage on sport center.. (DEAR GOD DON'T ACTUALLY COVER THEM ON THERE.).

This is my new favorite show!!! I was flippin through channels yesterday and instead of my usual passing of MTV I was blessed to come upon a show called "Blowin' Up." Now, I'm not that huge of a Jamie Kennedy fan but watching the dude go through a serious effort to drop an album is one of the most entertaining things I have seen in a long time. What really makes this show for me is the crazy folks that pop-up to furthur his journey to music stardom. Mike Jones, Method Man, and Bob Saget (who actually raps?) are just the few I saw in my brief foray into the series. I mean, where the hell else am I gonna see a Wu-tang member and Full House actor in the same damn show?

I don't even know when shit is on I need to check my listings.........

But the whole thing about that song is, I was saying that we blame everything that happens to us on everybody else. In the song I’m like [sings] “George Bush to blame…For everything.” Like, why? I don’t like some shit that he do, I’m a democrat all day. But at the end of the day, this dude, he a gorilla. He goin’ against these other muthafuckas and he trying to win. He trying to get that oil. But whatever he trying to get, he trying to put it over here. They tell people “The Hurricane is coming.” Is it his fault that you didn’t leave? I don’t understand that. But I am with the people when they say “Fuck George Bush” because of a lot of the fucked up shit that he do.

Now I think more rappers should be aware of whats going on and political, but don't stand up for a president if you are gonna say fuck him in the end, it dosen't make much sense. I know very few people who think Bush was not involved in the whole Katrina fiasco, Scrappy being one of them now I guess.

Recently I have really been into watching documentaries, one of the last I've seen is 'The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till', it goes into great depths of a senseless murder of a 13 year old, Emmett Till in racist Mississippi. I've never heard of this event before Kanye name dropped him in his 'Through the Wire' track. The whole event makes you wonder how anyone could have so much hate to anyone let alone a kid, even if you don't watch the movie do a google image search Emmett Louis Till to see what the south was about only 50 years ago, I'm sure you will be disgusted as I was.

The Return Of Doctor Octagon, Chapter 8: Dj ESE & Bisc1 "Perfect World" (Life During Wartime Remix)

Rob Sonic, Mike Relm, The Gray Kid and the staff of OCD stood behind the front door staring at it. Behind them, staring along with them via webcam were the other members of the Decipher project. It was time for an epic battle, and they all knew it. They wanted to believe from everything that had happened that Dr. Octagon was trying to present mankind a path to a better world, and this pesky alien tribe of Gorillas was trying to prevent him, and so they must fight. But was it all that simple? The facts seemed so confusing. Yet, they knew the time had come...

Rob clutched his sledgehammer tighter. Mike slowly twisted his nunchuks. Gray Kid slipped his razor-edged money clips out of his pocket, into his hands. Behind them, the monitor screens stared back at the scene, but the people behind had disappeared.

Rob kicked open the door, and the battalion of vigilantes stormed the yard outside only to be greeted by the sweltering stillness of a late Los Angeles evening. No Gorillas in sight. Only darkness. Silence.

They headed to the curb and looked down the street to the west, into the ocean. A faint rumble could be heard as something emerged on the horizon. Hummers. Big, huge, gigantic hummers.

Disciple 908 was right: the Gorillas were headed straight for OCD HQ, presumably for the master recording in the mp3 player that appeared mysteriously eight weeks ago. The Decipher crew had not only lead the Gorillas right to it, but had now been drawn out, like pawns in a chess game, away from the very item they have sworn to protect. Mike Relm and Gray Kid raced back inside the building to retrieve the mp3 player and keep it guarded. Rob Sonic and OCD staff stood ready to face the oncoming onslaught when gusts of wind picked up around them.

Looking up, they saw a stealth bomber arriving, hovering high above them. Small figures jumped out of the airplane and sped toward the ground with jetpacks. Rob gave a sigh of relief when he realizes that its members of the Money Fight and Cassettes Won't Listen. As Drake landed, he ran to Rob and explained, "That's Kid Loco's plane. He powers it with some strong skunk... damn that plane flies high and light!"

With the reinforcements, the Decipher crew's morale surged and they gathered to barricade the building. The Hummers approached closer and closer. The crew held their positions. The first Hummer screeched to a halt in front of the building. The crew held their positions. The front doors opened... and out popped a brown hi-top sneaker with neon blue stripes. It wasn't Gorillas - it was DJ Ese and Bisc1 of Embedded Music.

"We don't have much time," announced Ese. "My guy's got a pressing plant locked down in Simi Valley - let's get the masters there and dupe Dr. Octagon's message a.s.a.p. With packaging, we can flood the streets with them in a few days. That's going to be the only way we can protect ourselves from the Gorillas." With cheers of approval, everyone piled into the Hummers as fast as they could. At last, the Decipher crew could commit, with fair certainty, that Dr. Octagon's message was good, no longer evil, and must be disseminated widely towards the betterment of the world.

As they drove off, a lowly intern in the back of the last Hummer in the caravan, turned to look out the back window at the OCD HQ building for one last time. He gasped; "who is that boney figure on the rooftop? He's wearing a labcoat with a stethoscope around his neck, and seems to be holding the head of some black hairy creature in his hand." The intern shook his head and looked again...

Dr. Octagon had disappeared...

Does anybody remember Stack Bundles? That dude who was on pretty much every NY mixtape for the last couple of years but still hasn't "blown up". Well apparently the man who is the self-declared center of a label "bidding war" has chosen to roll with the Byrdgang.

Now I'm not sure if this is a label choice, but if it is it means dude is probably droppin' via KOCH. Now I know everyone wants that whole $10 per album shit but I find it extremely hard to believe that KOCH has much to offer in a bidding war against labels like Def Jam and Universal.

Who knows maybe this will be the thing to boost his solo career? Worked for Jeezy and Boyz in Da Hood. A year from now we could all be wearing Banned Green Easter Bunny T-Shirts, or whatever the hell his symbol is........ maybe a Turkey with icy Sunglasses.

So I was over at SpineMagazine and they posted a new Rampage (long time Flipmode Squad homie) track off of his new album, the track is called
I'm Rollin With You,
in an interview when the said song is asked about...

Nobodysmiling.com : A lot of people are saying you don’t need to pay excessive amounts for money for beats; did you have to pay big bucks for the Neptunes beat?

Rampage : Nah. Sometimes I just don’t pay nothing for beats. I just make sure they get it on their publishing.

So what is the damn point you ask? Well it is very simple listen here, he used a 5 year old Backstreet Boys track and is either trying to pull a fast one making it seem he is down with the neptunes (he even shouts out them on the track), which is pretty sad when it looks like Rampage probably acquired the beat without even working directly with the neptunes. Or if he did work with the neptunes, why would you use a 5 year old beat? Or did the neptunes try to rip off Rampage (least likely IMO). Regardless why would you put this on a retail album? This shit should stick to mixtapes, where I wouldn't have any problem with it. Any Insight folks?

So The Knickerbockers have fired Larry Brown, that should kind of irk you, but the fact Isaiah Thomas will become coach should force any Knicks fan to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. With the roster they got now they are starting to look like Trailblazers of the early 00s, a bunch of flashy names but nothing else, they are a team that is Stackhoused (a bunch of scorers who are in the point of their careers where they can only benefit a team by playing 20 minutes and coming off the bench). It has been proven that Isaiah can't run shit, not the Raptors, not the Pacers and def. not the CBA. He replaces a man who in 30+ years has never left a team with a losing record, untill now that is. The Return Of Doctor Octagon, Chapter 7: Catchdubs "Al Green" (Chapter 2, Verse 908 Remix)

OCD International HQ

Rob Sonic sat around the OCD HQ with a cup of coffee in front of him, As he slowly poured a healthy serving of whiskey into it, he looked around him. Mike Relmn, Gray Kid, along with the OCD staff sat to his left while on monitors to his right were the people of the Money Fight, Cassettes Won't Listen and Kid Loco (whose transmission looked smoky at best.) All Rob could think was, "how the fuck did I get into this?"

It had all been pretty much pieced together. The Gorilla who had come after Sonic and Loco was the evil mastermind behind all this. It was somehow connected to the clones that had helped destroyed TMF's home planet, but they were still unsure what that connection was. And that damn package was still flashing 06272006 and no one had been able to stop it. Ok, maybe there were a few things to figure out.

Sonic knew he was at least safe and he had a plan. Well, he had a dream. A dream with a man dressed in a hooded robe. The man had appeared in a yellow robe in the center of Sonic's room with a hood covering most of his head with number 908 emblazed across the front. On the back of the robe in big black letters, were the letters AG.

"Greetings. I am a disciple from the house of AG. We are an ancient society whose sole purpose is to help in times of need before great battles. You are going to war Rob Sonic. The Gorilla that chased you has been responsible for destroying countless worlds all over this galaxy. They were the ones that invented the cloning technology that was used to create the Dr Octagon clones. What Cassettes Won't Listen thought were Aliens, were actually The Gorillas, who lose the ability to retain their body hair in space.

OCD had done everything right. But someone made a fatal mistake. You. You think you lost The Gorilla? You lead him right to the source. He knows exactly where you are, and he is planning to destroy OCD HQ and steal the good Doctor's package before the world can hear his message. This cannot happen. You must fight. You must save the planet. It is up to you."

With that, Rob had awoken from his dream to find a dark room and a bad headache. As he fumbled for the lights, he found a space raygun and a training tape with the word Disciple 908 imprinted on it.

As Sonic relayed this to the stunned table around him, he picked up the space gun and pressed play on the training tape. As the beats from the House of AG dropped in, he looked around the table and told them:

"Pack yo shit. We going to war. Suckahs."

What up everyone, Back on May 15th I was fortunate to see the Clipse and Dogg Pound open up for Ice Cube, now after fixing my shitty internet, I was finally able to upload the concert video to share.

First off, no doubt the Clipse are one of my favorite acts in the game right now, their time on the stage was maybe 20 minutes or so but every single minute was hot, I would pay a lot to see a full set of theirs, see here as they do their classic track, Grindin':

Before this following clip I wasn't sure if Ice Cube was still hungry to be a rapper, and should stick to doing movies, boy was I wrong, the energy he showed on that night was some of the best I've ever seen from any rap acts live, Also it should be noted that he chose to do a lot of his classic shit over cuts off his new album. As he left the stage he said he'd be back this summer with Snoop, if it is back at 9:30 I am so there. Note: The guy yelling in the background was a dude next to me, trashed out of his mind, he yelled the WHOLE night, even got the attention of WC during an interlude, it was hillarious.

Part 6 is a little late because your boy was on vacation, now I'm back fulltime and I'm not going ANYWHERE.

The Return Of Doctor Octagon, Chapter 6: Kid Loco in the Return of "A Gorilla Driving A Pick-Up Truck" (Banana Loco Mix)

-Paris, France; at a streetside cafe on the wrong side of the river Seine, Kid Loco sips an aperitif while staring intently at his laptop screen, He is reviewing updates on the Decipher project from OCD HQ and he can't believe what he's reading. A planet destroyed by Dr. Octagon clones; fellow decipherers gone delusional and then cured by a mysterious cure; abducted hackers claiming to have met the real Dr. Octagon years ago; gorillas driving pick up trucks… How do all these events fit in with each other? What does it all mean?

Kid Loco inhales deeply and looks skyward. How can he, a hopeless romantic, an urban artist raised on the boulevards of Paris, be expected to wrap his head around these seemingly inexplicable ongoings in the U.S.? Whatever's going on there, may soon spread everywhere. He knows if he just concentrates and focuses, maybe, just maybe, he can come up with the missing link to tie it all together.

He reaches into his pockets and pulls out a smooth-rolled blunt of rare Pakistani hashish – Kid Loco's secret psychic weapon that he likes to call the Three Feet High Reefer. He lights it up, puffs it up, closes his eyes and prepares to Zen out. His dubbed out re-interpretation of "A Gorilla Driving A Pick-Up Truck (Banana Loco Mix)" cues itself onto his mp3 playlist.

Kid Loco lets his mind do the walking, through each of the tracks on the Dr. Octagon recording. It sounds almost as if the Dr. Octagon on this new recording is not quite the same man (creature?) that produced the perverted Dr. Octagynaecologist 10 years ago. As the purple haze thickens, Loco realizes that "Trees" is clearly a warning on the dangers of pollution. We know the Earth's environment generally disagreed with Dr. Octagon, turning his skin "green and silver, warhead lookin' mean". Loco smacks his lips to the sweet, sticky fumes and thinks about the lyrics on "Ants", where the Doctor is above the clouds, looking down on humans tiny as ants. Perhaps, this is a new perspective to help us remember how ephemeral our existence is?

There's "Perfect World", where Octagon declares, "Men with suits & ties sitting call the shots from a chair / Hummers comin' at night with dark light / More drama looking thru the sun roof at a stealth bomber." With the political messages behind "Jumpstart" and "Eat It", Octagon demonstrates a certain sympathy for the human race, instead of the self-destructive tendencies he displayed previously. Has the Doctor been reborn? Is he offering us a key to ending suffering and pestilence? Is this recording the ying to Dr. Octagynaecologist's yang? Then… maybe the foul circumstances surrounding this recording have more to do with someone trying to prevent Dr. Octagon from succeeding in our salvation?

As the sweet, sticky fumes subside, a green Chevy pick-up truck rolls to an abrupt stop on the curb, directly in front of Kid Loco. A huge, hairy ape in a spacesuit wrestles the door open. He steps out, stretches his arms and legs, and purveys the scene. He spots Kid Loco, walks over to him, and takes a seat. He speaks in a low, gruff voice.

Gorilla: "So, Kid Loco. You think you have it all figured out, huh?"
Kid Loco: "Why are you trying to stop Dr. Octagon?"

The gorilla guffaws, snorting through his enormous nostrils. He shoots Kid Loco an evil grin, and in a sudden flash he's gone. Only later does Kid Loco realize that the gorilla took off with the quarter ounce of hash he had neatly tucked away in his jacket pocket. "Merde", Kid Loco shouts furiously; "We are going to find you, monkey. And we are going to get to the bottom of this."

The Return Of Doctor Octagon, Chapter 5: Cassettes Won't Listen- "Aliens (Hearing Aid Remix)"

OCD International HQ   

A red light blinks on the machine. As play is pressed, a frantic message comes over sound system.

"I just got chased by a freakin' gorilla in a pick up truck. What's going on? Doesn't feel right. I'm coming to L.A. to get to the bottom of this. Sonic out."

The staff at OCD Headquarters had heard rumors that something was happening on the east coast and they had sent out a crack team of experts to investigate. Entrusted with the cure provided by The Money Fight, they knew they could be of great assistance. Gray Kid and Mike Relm were all but recovered and ready to get back to deciphering the strange messages received from Dr. Octagon.

There had been some changes to the original package they received. It had begun to blink "06272006" repeatedly and to the dismay of their hackers, they had not been able to figure out this new level to the mystery. Things were stable, yet not moving forward. Frustrated, the lead hacker sat down over the monitors to give it one more try.

While working through algorithms, polyrhythms and audiological historical charts, the monitor began to shimmy, shake and worm out of focus. The screen flashed "Cassettes Won't Listen" over and over till it went blank. When it came back, a bearded man in glasses had replaced the charts in front of him. As the man began to speak, it seemed like the voice was coming from inside the hacker's head.

I am Cassettes Won't Listen. I have hacked into your system and have been following your progress on The Return Dr. Octagon. I waited to reveal myself until I knew you were good people and could be trusted. I know you are trying to decipher what he sent you and I think I may be of some assistance.

About 8 years ago, along with 5 friends, I was abducted. We were tortured, cloned and kept in isolation. Of the 6 of us, two survived. The other survivor, Travis Walten, was killed by one of the clones because of what we knew. I have since gone underground as a One Man Army to fight these imposters. The fact that I survived is not important. What is important is who I found on that ship.

Dr. Octagon was kept in the cell next to me. The aliens had abducted him as a prime candidate to study all things regarding grills, pills and bills. He had been cloned, and his clones had been sent out to destroy the universe. That's who visited the planet of The Money Fight people. That's who have been causing havoc all over the universe.

What I am trying to say is that Dr. Octagon is alive.

I was able to record a conversation with him before we were released using a makeshift recording device of duct tape and space age technology, which I am uploading now. You know everything I know. I will rendezvous with your team when they get to New York City and explain the situation. We will fight the good fight and continue to search out these clones and destroy them. These imitators must be stopped at all costs. Cassettes Won't Listen ...out.

As the bearded man faded from the screen, a green button appeared. The hacker hesitated, shook his head and pressed the flashing icon. The hacker listened in awe as the history of Dr. Octagon began to reveal itself. As he ran to inform his superiors, a van screeched to a halt outside hq…

More details have come out from the shooting of Beanie Sigel, who some claim was a publicity stunt (what does have to publicize about right now??), regardless, him asking "know who I am?" got him shot AFTER he gave up his ice. Which was worth 75 thousand, yet he was rolling in an Chevy Impala which I believe goes for 20k or so, as former Beanie nemesis-Jada would say "Why?".

So another as I was watching TV post, I was watching the VH1 Rock Honors special yesterday and I noticed one interesting thing, there have been 2 Hip Hop Honors shows but the budget for the Rock Honors show was bigger than both hip hop shows combined times three, they really went all out. You can tell the production was a lot more dedicated to this then the hip hop version of the special, anyway just something of note. Even the two websites tell the whole story. The Setting:
3 AM, A wet, but warm late night, or should we say early morn, in the Bronx. Def Jukie Rob Sonic finds himself, as he has many times, at his favorite joint, The Telicatessen. His head in his hands, elbows on the table, over a cup of the blackest cup of Joe this side of 110th Street, he recounts the events to the evening.

Earlier That Night:
A blowout party downtown was taking place in the honor of slain sucker MCs. Rob place at the bar was firmly in place when a hand drops on his left shoulder. As he turns to find no one there he returns face forward to a small box on the bar. “What the … “

The box reads “for your eyes only.” He expects it’s a joke played on him and decides to pause on the opening.

Back at The Telicatessen:
A strange headache has descended on Rob by this point and the short stack with sausage hasn’t helped the cause. A solid stroke of the cloth napkin to clean his lips and leaves his staring back at the mysterious box. “Screw it …” he mumbles to himself as he grabs the knife beside him, gives the box a shake and digs in. The contents reveal two things; a CD burn labeled “Dr Octagon” with a sharpie and a note from OCD saying:

“This is what I wanted you to hear.”

“What ever…” He says to himself as he drops two Lincolns on the table face down and nods to the cute waitress behind the counter.

As Rob looks up and head to the door he swears he see from the corner of his eye two beady eyes glowing green through the window. But it’s late and he plays it off to exhaustion.

On the way to the car an eerie feeling of being followed consumes him. Nothing but shadows behind him yet still the feeling persists. His pace quickens… Movement to his right… Shuffles heard to the left … and a strange musty smell floats in the air. He darts to the car and locks the door with a feeling of momentary safety.

The disc still in hand, he slips it in the player and kicks on the ignition. The track begins, the gas peddle descends and he pulls off. Soon after Rob feels a sharp shock as his car is bumped from behind. Looking in the rearview mirrors, he sees a green pick up truck, just inches behind him. A large, dark, muscle-bound figure is behind the wheels. The pickup drops back and smashes them again. This time, a tail light is broken off. Rob expels expletives “What the F#@k!”

Rob accelerates, pushing 70 mph, trying to escape this madman insisting on a dangerous high-speed chase. The truck changes left, then right, then back again trying to overtake Rob’s vehicle. Rob glances at the gas tank gauge on his dashboard - It’s getting close to empty. Rob is surprised; he distinctly remembers filling up just earlier that day. Rob searches for a truck stop but there doesn’t seem to be any in sight. Bam! The truck hits him again.

He turns back…
“ What The …!? Is that a gorilla?”

I was flipping through channels and I came across Spike TV, and they had some wrestling on (I used to be a big fan of wrestling in my early teens, in the late 90s), I saw a farmilar face but something was wrong, but I wasn't sure..then I realized what the hell was wrong they had a segment with a wrestler wearing BLACKFACE, are you fucking kidding that in the year 2006 this is viewed acceptable? Where the hell is Spike TVs Standards & Practices lawyers?? If it was some other group of people being disrespected someone would have a big enough problem that it wouldn't air. Everyone involved with this travesty from the racists that wrote the storyline to the wrestlers that apparenlty have no self-value. If I was a wrestler, even if it was my only way to make a living and I was instructed to do something like this I would be leave. I wonder what the Black wrestlers of this company thought when they saw this?

The Return Of Doctor Octagon, Chapter 3: The Money Fight Fire Ants

Dark clouds have descended over the OCD offices. It's been three weeks since receiving the mysterious package from the good Doctor and they are nowhere closer to deciphering his message for the people of earth. What's worse is their two previous code crackers have become useless. Mike Relm has been only responding in binary code, which when deciphered, says

"Times up Ants move with the bell"

The Gray Kid has been committed to a mental hospital. They last heard he has been scribbling on the walls:

"Look at them crawl, look at them climb up the wall, like roaches"

Nervous, anxious, and paranoid, all seems lost for the people of OCD. After putting their heads together, they turn their attention to the Northern CA hills. Placing a call on the purple phone, it rings 14 times only to receive this message:

"Sorry, Her Space Holiday is not in right now. We are out on a global tour teaching a 12-part dissertation on how the past presents the future: a study of audiological time travel. Please leave your message after the beat beat beat."

Defeated, devastated and defunct, the OCD feels the walls closing in on them. The despair lies on top of them like the weight of the world. Not a word is spoken. Then the purple phone rings. As it's picked up, someone yells, "Track that call!"

OCD Operator: How did you get this number?

The Money Fight: That is not important. We hear you have... some problems.

OCD Operator: Who is this? Where are you from?

TMF: We are The Money Fight. Where we are from is of no importance, what is important is that you listen closely.

OCD Tracker: It's coming from LA

OCD Operator: What do you want?

TMF: You must listen. We hear you received a package. We received the same package 5 years ago. Upon opening it, destruction and chaos descended upon our society. People were almost crushed under a weight of despair and grief. We were nearly decimated as a people.

OCD Tracker: Wait, its New York. Keep them talking.

OCD Operator: What happened?

TMF: We thought all was lost. Villages burned, people terrorized each other in the streets, and our society was reduced to almost nothing. That was until we were able to break the code. Through a combination of modern technology, audiological innovations and numerous sacrifices, we were able to save our great society. We were almost able to undo the damage. Almost. We hear two of your people have been infected.

OCD Tracker: Australia!

OCD Operator: Yes, can you help them?

TMF: Yes, we can. You are safe for now. And if you ever find the 'good' doctor, tell him we are coming for him.

OCD Tracker: Saturn?

OCD Operator: Hello? Hello?

All is silent again. Had that all been a prank? Suddenly all the computers light up and the stereo switches on. A whistle blows. As the beat drops, and the strings soar, all begins to look up at the OCD office.

And we go "la, la, la, laaaaaa..."

Here is the 2nd installment of the Kool Keith series we are running...

Chapter 2: AL GREAZY

When we last left off, Mike Relm started the Decipher Series by breakin' down the history of the infamous Dr Octagon. But still unclear on what this new material was intended to mean, OCD has gone to their list of interpreters to get to the root of it.

Meanwhile on the Left Coast...

A hot, gray Los Angeles afternoon finds Gray Kid chillin' on Venice Beach. Mac on his lap, posting to his blog, the Kid is interrupted by a pop-up window. It's OCD on the I.M.

OCD: We need your services a.s.a.p.
GrayKid5678: Is there dough involved?
OCD: None, this is for the sake of all mankind.
Graykid5678: What are you talking about?
OCD: The Return of Dr. Octagon is upon us.
GrayKid5678: Oh word?
OCD: Yeah, we need you to decipher the hidden meaning of an audio track entitled "Al Green." We believe it was sent to us by Dr. Octagon.
GrayKid5678: I thought that dude got got...
OCD: Just accept the File Transfer and get to work Kid.
GrayKid5678: Now you're all bossy like? Whatever, I'm about it, but you owe me one holmes...

As the file transfer completes, the Kid queues the track in his media player and slips his headphones on. He pauses to observe the scene around him. Beautiful women in bikinis, bodybuilders with goatees, kids with rainbow colored waterguns. All is well. Yet, the Kid feels uneasy. He hesitates, then presses play.

The bass loop, the guitar stabs, the piano keys – the Kid is mesmerized. The hair on his neck jump to attention, his pupils harden and his veins begin to bulge. When the vocal drops, the Kid gasps and glances up. A large, hairy man dressed in traditional Pakistani garb stands before him. The man places his sweaty arms on the Kid's shoulders, staring him down with eyes glowing neon green. The man speaks, oddly enough, with an urban American accent, "All you motherfuckers trying to be Al Green... Suckers, pack your shit!"

The Kid snatches his headphones off and shakes his head vigorously to snap out of the hallucination. The strange man gone, everything around him appears to be normal. Yet, convinced that something sinister is afoot, the Kid gets to work. He cuts and pastes and patches and scratches until the sun sets, until the investigative analysis is complete. He emails the results, the raw essence of the audio distilled via his skills as a pop chemist, off to OCD.

Now that business has been taken care of, the Kid smacks his lips contemplating the thought of slurping down a cool cerveza to relax with after all the day's excitement. His left hand reaches into his pocket to pull out funds to turn this dream into a reality. He freezes.

"Yo! Where's my money clip?"

... 10 years since Dr. Octagon's groundbreaking first address to the world, "Dr. Octagonecologyst <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Octagonecologyst> ", a musical recording with a combination of lyrical alchemy and beat science powerful enough to teleport the first human listeners to rap in the year 3000.

... 7 years since Dr. Dooom murdered Dr. Octagon on the opening track to Dooom's "First Come First Served"... Dr. Octagon's office in the Bronx was boarded up, the nurses obliged to seek alternate means of employment. Thousands of patients in need of rectal rebuilding or removing turtles from their uteruses had to fulfill their medical needs elsewhere. The toll-free hotline 1-800-PP5-1-DOODOO and his space age cell 709 755 6EL3 were both disconnected.

BACK IN THE PRESENT
The Pop epidemic proliferates, poisoning millions. Evil forces at work, those who "water down the sound that comes from the ghetto", continue plugging this poison directly into Earth society's mainstream, in greater and greater doses. The casualties mount, while The National Guard United States Enterprise is helpless. The rap game, overcrowded with so-called rap super-villains, now more than ever before, could use a rap superhero.

ELSEWHERE ON PLANET EARTH...
The team at OCD International arrived for work to find a small indiscriminate package has arrived mysteriously at their doorstep. Unlabeled. How curious. Opening the box, its sole content is discovered – what seems to be a nano-size mp3 player, in purple-green casing adorned with shimmering blue flowers. An inscription, laser etched on the back reads, "Attention: Earth People. From the Labs of Dr. Octagon, Planet Jupiter".

Could it be? THE RETURN OF DR OCTAGON!? Is this really the one & only Dr. Octagon? The folks at OCD had to get to the bottom of this. The tracks were immediately ripped off the mp3 player and then shipped for intense forensic voice identification. IT IS HIM!

But what is he saying? What is the message and why is it left with OCD? To get to the bottom of the mystery as crack team of musical experts were assembled to analyze the content of some key track and decipher the code.

First on the case was DJ Mike Relm, inventor of the Zodyak Scop System, esteemed architect of the future sound of hip hop. Mike has seen a lot of strange things in his time; it is no secret that he was once a Turntable Terrorist trafficking in supernatural sonics. He plugged into his ProTools, only to find himself possessed... By some superior force.

After an indefinite period of time, he awoke with a start, in his studio in San Francisco. He vaguely recalls visions of a 12th century turret in the old quarter of Prague, and a vile, evil creature only describable as halfsharkalligatorhalfman. Not to mention, Mike's throbbing head. Confused and disoriented, he glanced over to his computer screen. A long, dense 20-minute waveform is displayed; the name of the file reads "Octagynaemix". Could it be Mike's mix unfolded during a freak forced coma brought on from post-future hypnotic soundwave embedded in the files. Or did Mike just have some bad fish.

Only he truly knows...

Killa Season=The Movie We've been waiting for...

The day was Tuesday, it was a miracle, the Killa Season DVD was actually released, only one pushback sufficed for this Killa project. No time was wasted to get to watching it, here at ML it was priority numero uno. And oh boy (pun!!) folks if you love Cam'ron and crew's real life antics of being car-jacked to arguing on Bill O'Rielly then this shit is definatley for you. From the outside you might judge this film as a an ametuer fortay into straigh to dvd movies. If you did that, you would be so wrong because Killa, Hell Rell & Co. bring a much deeper than you could possibly imagine.

*The shooting of the film is epic alone, from scenes in '1992' when Cam was in High School selling weed to janiots and teachers they had brand spanking new Dells with flat panel screens at his high school, and the homies he was working with on his *ahem* operations wear the same exact outfits in some scenes that are 14 years apart but in the same exact rooms!

*For you editing buffs, If you look ~~closely~~ you'll see plenty of cameras sticking out through out the film. The flashback scenes in the film occur often and the transition is straight up horrible, I can't even joke about it.

*If you have some fetish about watching true-life crackheads, this movie does it for you, you'll give it a lot of bonus points if you enjoy creackheads without any acting training what so ever.

*The script alone will sweep you off your feet with lines direct at Cam'rons character 'Flea' such as "FUCK A FLEA!!"

*If that is not enough comical genius for you, there is a fucking boatload here. From scenes to where homies are picking up 70 year old ladies to chill with to hollering at ladies that are mourning. Think of this as a hood version of the wedding crashers ending scene.

*If you hate the 5-0, rejoice as here they are portrayed of having some comic as the comissner and consting with a huge task force of 2 officers for the whole prieceint.

*Killa speaking "African" and Spanish is worth the dvd alone.

*Actors who are clearly Puerto Rican are able to play Italians!

*Which ever weed carrier scored the soundtrack, needs some sort of recongition because while the music dosen't really match up with whats on screen I enjoyed watching some upbeat soul/funk song play as Cam gets dressed for a funeral or a dramaitc tense action theme plays as Cam "enjoys" a shorty. *NH* warning you see Cam's ass, unless something fishy is going on, I hope it is directed for the female viewers.

*As you see in the clip bellow a few subliminals are nicely worked in, even Funkmaster Flex pops up as car dealer that dosent require credit checks to throw jabs at Benzino, *MUST SEE*.

*The Gay drug dealer from 'The Wire' pops up for about 10 seconds in the movie...considering it was some violent scene, maybe it was footage of an actual event?

*Drive-by on a bicycle. enough said.

*If you've ever wondered how drugs are trafficked into the country from the Dominican, the movie depicts it as graphically as humanly possibly, for some sick reason I wanted to cry tears of joy.

*There is some random ass gore scene in the movie, with like 123294823483 stabbings on one person alone. The props used for internal body parts look like dog toys from the dollart store dripped in blood red.

*Other than one glass of Orange Juice which gets spilled, and 3 2 liter bottles of soda, the only beverage consumed by the characters is sizzurp.

*The movie includes a random ass trip to Atlanta, which accomplishes very little but shows a lot of strippers in their work place enviroment! (The footage leading up to this 'trip' really looks like some personal video of the whole dipset crew on a private jet, when they land they have a red carpet which Juelz err 'Bandana' eagrliy points out.)

*Flea's lawyer once says "I Love You" to him in one scene, a NO HOMO warninig was nowhere flashing on the screen.

*In the movie, some one actually did casting for this movie, so dudes didn't just randomly show up to shoot this movie, which was what I thought.

*If you think the laughs are over when the credits roll, that is a lie, shit like having about 60 actors simply labeled as 'Crackheads' no numbers to even tell them apart are included.

Oh yeah, that deeper meaning that they bring can't be described in any words, just go see the damn movie!!! While it may not be flashy with all the hollywood shit, it is truly from the streets, this shit gets 5/5 Sizzurp Bottles from ML.
Regardless, after viewing this movie to the bitter end, the conlucsion answers very few questions (see: none) so there must be a sequel ASAP, after the Cam'ron conftonting pedophiles DVD, it is all I really want right now.

First off i want to say Rest In Peace to Proof of D12 and his family, who was tragically shot and killed in Detroit. Really surreal.

The other thing was I was supposed talk to DJ Khaled of Terror Squad who is fucking clubs up with his "Holla At Me" which features Fat Joe, Paul Wall, Lil Wayne, Pitbull and Rick Ross, this is probably one of the hottest club tracks this year IMO. Well having to use a telephone long distance provider the piece of shit provider was giving me an "all circuits are busy" recording after 30 straight tries, so of course I missed my slot, the lesson I learned is to have like 5 different providers lined up next time lol. It's a shame. So first I got to drop this little story which I think many of you should enjoy.

Your favorite ML homie was shopping for some new shoes the other day at a department store. I was about to go in to this one aisle when a black man pretty much jumped right into my face. DC Metro: Providing Quality Entertainment

So I was browsing the Washington Post aka WP (for the cyber streets) for more signs of how DC/MoCo area keeps it gully. I used to write about this quite a bit, if you don't recall check the archives. Well anyway, I came across this piece, and I've had my share of stories, and these too are pretty good ones.

I might as well tell my story, Some buddies and I were headed down to the Talib/Mos Def/Pharohe Monch show at the 9:30 club. We got on the Red Line at white flint, as soon as we got on. I noticied a guy, dressed some in timbs and baggy clothes, sitting near one of the doors on the car and was fumbling around, going through like all his pockets, looking at what looked like years old papers that were very worn. A few minutes later he caught my attention again. He took out a walie-talkie and start franticly talking it to it saying shit like "Green 43, 34" then "Blue 43 82", while looking frantically down both sides of the metro car. At first this went on for 10 minutes, I thought there was gonna be some gang or some shit he was calling in. A lot of the folks on the train (mostly your standard over 40, white, dc vistors) were starting to get worried and shook looks. Then he started to dissemble the walkie-talkie yet he still continued to yell out those same codes.. this continued for the whole ride to Gallery-Place/Chinatown, I didn't want it to end but we had to get off the train, But ever since I've always wondered if there was an exciting conclusion to this mans train journey.

Apathy is a very busy man in his least favorite season, the winter but regardless he looks to get even busier. I caught up with him in the middle of hefty press day for his new album 'Eastern Philosophy'. Which he was doing on the road while nearing the end of the Fort Minor tour, which he is a part of along with the aforementioned-Fort Minor, Styles of Beyond, and Little Brother.Don't worry, he can hold his weight. When I got to talk to him, he just finished eating a 10 minute lunch. It was 4pm. As he chilled next to his partner in crime Celph-Titled, I talked to the Connecticut (see: complete opposite of Greenwich Village) rapper about everything from his new album to books. I was very hyped to speak to him after hearing some of his solo indie work, records with the Demigodz, and most recently, tracks on the Green Lantern + Fort Minor's We Major Mixtape (which by the way was one of the best in 2005, and pretty much redeemed GL's 2005 after the Shady Records fall out.).

ML: What’s up man, are you are pretty busy right now on tour with Fort Minor and promoting the album?

Apathy: Yea, I’m on tour right now with Fort Minor, and Styles of Beyond and Celph [Titled].

ML: How was it working with Fort Minor?

Apathy: It’s cool man, Mike Shinoda is the fucking man, he’s mad humble, he’s a homie, he’s a good dude, he looks out for us, its a real good experience.

ML: How did you meet up with him?

Apathy: Well, Styles of Beyond is a part of Demigodz, which is a part of our crew, and they’ve known Mike for a long time. They used to do a lot of work with Mike and shit. So Mike hit them up and wanted to sign them, and then they played Mike the shit we were all doing together, and put him on to us, and he was a fan immediately. He loved our shit, so that’s how that whole thing went down.

ML: How has the tour experience been so far?

Apathy: The tour is fucking bananas; we started out in a lot of markets that we don’t usually play. We went to Minnesota, we went to Detroit, to Chicago, to Toronto that is my first time in all those places right there. It was dope, the fans were crazy, most of the fans were Fort Minor fans, but there was a huge amount of our fans there too, it really bugged me out. A lot of people came and were like “Yo, I just came just to see you guys”, it really bugged me out; it was an amazing thing to hear, for our fans to come out for us like that.

ML: Do you have any special or crazy stories from the tour so far?

Apathy: Not really, we’ve been so busy; nothing really crazy has jumped off yet. The craziest thing is how nuts the Fort Minors fans are. They draw these pictures and shit, draw our names out and try to give us presents. It’s really nuts compared to the regular underground hip-hop crowds we’ve been used to. They are really wild, devoted crazy fans.

ML: So just the whole experience as a whole?

Apathy: Exactly, just the whole experience has been fucking berzerk.

ML: What do you think sets you apart as an MC from other MCs that are out right now?

Apathy: Well I mean there is a lot of MCs out there, I don’t know how they do their shit, but I’m a perfectionist no matter what I do. If you hear a song, you can guarantee that song has been scrutinized a billion times, or I’ve agonized over it or been crazy about it. And I think that’s the thing.

ML: Even the title of your debut album [Eastern Philosophy], I read that you came up with that in 1998….so you know its been scrutinized..

Apathy: That album, has gone through so many changes. When I first started that album, when I first came up with that title, when I first recorded the songs for it, they were completely different songs, there was not one song on there that was the same, I was just unhappy with it. And I knew what I wanted the album to sound like and it just wasn’t there. I kept recording, I kept tweeking things, [and] it still wasn’t the same thing. Then all of the sudden like about a year and a half ago, I sat down and I was like you know what? I want this album to be my ‘Reasonable Doubt’, my ‘Ready to Die’, or my ‘Illmatic’. I’m not saying its on the level of those, those can’t be topped, but what I wanted to do was I wanted to present listeners that type of vibe, that type of shit from that era. So I sat down and I listened to only the classics and I crafted it that way.

ML: What’s the most amount of time that you’ve spent to redo a single song? Is there a song that you kept changing and changing?

Apathy: Yea, definitely, I think ‘The Buck Stops Here’ was one of the longest songs. It’s this song I did about the dollar bill, and it’s gone through like 5 beat changes. There is another song too called ‘Chemical’, we changed the beat on it like 3 or 4 times. Had like 7 different people remix it, 3 of them we were definitely going to use, then we kept changing out mind at the last minute every time. ‘The Buck Stops Here’ is a song about the travels of a dollar bill, I changed that shit so many times, I changed the verses, I flipped my ideas of what I wanted to do. That song really went through it in terms of constantly being switched up.

ML: What are your favorite albums of all time that are timeless and inspiring to you? Do you have albums like that?

Apathy: Yea, defiantly ‘Illmatic’ and ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx’, but ‘Illmatic’ is the perfect album to me ,that’s my favorite album of all time hands down. If I had to pick my top 10 albums, that [single] album occupies like the first 4 spaces, that’s how big of a deal that album is to me.

ML: It’s interesting that you brought up ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx’, because it has [Wu-Tang Clan songstress] Blue Raspberry and you have her on your single. How did you come up with the idea to have her on the record?

Apathy: Well like I was saying before, during that time when we were recording the Eastern Philsophy album, like within the past year and half, I was only listening to classic albums. I would only listen to ‘Illmatic’, ‘Reasonable Doubt’, ‘Organized Konfusion’, ‘Stress’ and ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx’ is like one of the biggest albums of all time, that’s a huge fucking deal. What happened was I did ‘The Winter’ song, and once I did ‘The Winter’ song I really listened to it. We were originally going to do cuts on that song, but we couldn’t find any cuts that really were good, and then I’m like you know what, we’ve got so many songs on this albums with cuts for hooks, that I want to do something different. So I drove around with the song for a couple days and listened to it in my car. I started to piece together the hook in my head, and I really thought about the hook, and I wanted something real powerful. You know on ‘Glaciers Ice’ when Blue Rapsberry sings real high? It’s crazy, OH SHIT. That’s the feeling that I wanted on that song, I wanted loud, screaming, yelling hook.

ML: So you could feel the emotion?

Apathy: Exactly, so I wrote that hook out with her in mind. But in the back of my head I’m like “Yo, I’m never going to find her, I’m never going to get her”. So when I was talking to Chum about it, I’m like “Yo, how hot would that be if we got her?” and he was like “Oh my god, that would be incredible” but you know in our minds we were both like “Yea, whatever”. So I interviewed a whole bunch of singers, I interviewed and had like 6 or 7 different singers try to sing the thing , it just did not work, it wasn’t what I wanted it to be. I was damn near ready to give up, I was almost ready to be like “Whatever, we’ll just find whoever to do the song”. Then my home girl Carmalita who helps organize and run The [World Famous] Wake Up Show over in LA. She is a very good friend of mine, and I said “Yo, aren’t you friends with RZA?” and she’s like “Yeah, I’m real good friends with RZA”, and I said can you ask him if by any chance if he knows how to get a hold of Blue Raspberry? So she called up RZA, and almost immediately hit me back, and goes “Yea, here is her number” and I was like “WHAT!! Are you fucking kidding me?”. So I called up Blue immediately and Blue and I hit it off like right off the bat, and we became just real good friends.

ML: Do you have a favorite album of the moment right now?

Apathy: I mean, not for nothing but the only thing I’ve been listening to recently is my album, I don’t know if it’s cause I’m scrutinizing but I’m also a fan of my album. I know that sounds arrogant but it’s a big deal to me because my other CDs that I’ve put out, anything I’ve ever been on, I don’t listen to it, like I’m not a fan of it, I don’t love it, I like it and it’s cool but I can’t sit there and listen to it but my album I can listen to, and sit around and listen to. Basically recently the biggest thing I’ve been listening to is just mine. But I mean I’m anticipating Ghostface’s ‘Fishscales’ that’s the only thing I’m really looking forward to right now.

ML: and the new Rakewon album too?

Apathy: Oh hell yeah, ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2’, hell yeah!

ML: What was your favorite part of the long process of making your debut album?

Apathy: My favorite part of it was when we were about 75% done with it. Cause at first we’re just recording here and there and songs were still up in the air, I was still trying to figure out what’s going where. You’re kind of indecisive about shit; you are just trying to feel it out. But when we got about 75-85% done with the album, I kind of like smiled, like yo, this is going to be hot; I see what we’re doing now. So I started writing a couple new songs and when I started writing those couple new songs they really fell into place. And I was like yo this is exactly the direction I wanted to go in, this is exactly I wanted to hear, this is exactly how I wanted to do it and I’m real comfortable with how its coming out right now.

ML: I was wondering how you managed the joint venture to release you album through Babygrande and Atlantic? Because it’s pretty rare that an indie label works with a major label.

Apathy: Well I told Atlantic, that this process is taking forever, and my A&R is cool, and I told him my fans need material, I need to put out material. I want to put out this Indie album, do I have your permission to do it? And he’s like yeah, definitely, 100%, keep your buzz going, keep everything going on and I’ll support you in that. Babygrande stepped to me and gave me a great offer. They said a lot of things that they wanted to do, like do the video, and they wanted to be real passionate about the marketing and just doing everything and really get behind the project. So I was like hell yeah, let’s go. From the time that we started talking and figuring out things until it actually popped off, it took like 9 months. This is the fucked up thing, everyone was in agreement, everyone was down to do it, Atlantic was like yeah defiantly we’re allowing you to do it. But it still took mad long just because you know all the red tape to process and procedure so it still took literally 9 or 10 months just to get the paperwork done for Atlantic to get all the things that they wanted, and for everybody to be happy. So going back forth between my lawyers, Atlantic’s lawyers, Babygrande’s lawyers, it was just a big mess for a long time, that was the most frustrating aspect about the whole entire shit. There was a lot times where I was just like fuck it, this isn’t even going to happen we are just going to put it out ourselves. Everything ended up working out and really poppin off.

ML: Do you have any hobbies you like to do?

Apathy: Music pretty much consumes all my time, I really don’t have any hobbies. I sit around watching movies pretty much whenever I have spare time. [Laughs] When I’m not doing music I try to not think about music as much as possible. It is so overwhelming and takes up so much of my much time. I do it all the time, I love doing it. A hobby though that I consider [that I do] is I’m an MC so when I make beats, so that is a hobby to me, that is something I love, I’m not really known as much for.

ML: Do you follow any sports teams?

Apathy: I’ve always been a Yankees fan, I noticed that within the last 5-6 years, Yankees are bandwagon, huge, everybody jumped on. But I’ve been a Yankees fan since I was a little kid, my grandfather brought me up as a Yankees fan. I used to follow football and basketball, I used to play basketball. But I just don’t have time anymore, so I really don’t follow it all, like I have no idea who won the Super Bowl, I don’t care, I spent the whole super bowl shooting my video.

ML: You said you played sports growing up, but what role did music play in your upbringing?

Apathy: Oh it was a huge thing; all my parents would do was listen to music. Whether it was funk shit, a lot of classic rock, they listened to a lot of rock, but my father listened to everything, he tried to keep it well rounded even though predominately he listened to rock the most, he listened to jazz, he listened to classical, he listened to everything, my father really listened to a lot of different shit.

ML: You said you liked movies, any particular ones that you are a big fan of?

Apathy: Yea man, I’m a real big movie fanatic so its hard to pin point, but I got a whole list. I’m a big fan of the dude Wes Anderson [who] makes ‘Rushmore’, ‘The Royal Tennebaums’, ‘The Life Aquatic’, he makes real bugged out movies. Then I like old 80s classics like ‘Red Dawn’, and ‘Commando’, one of my favorite movies of all times is Juice, Juice is a classic. I even watch weird shit like right here, I’m on tour and I got my little mini DVD player with me, but I got ‘The Ten Commandments’, that movie is incredible, I got things like ‘The Sopranos’. I’m a real big movie head, everything here and there and everything in between, ‘City of God’, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’, you know what I mean?

ML: That can be your hobby right there, collecting DVDs!

Apathy: [Laughs] Yea, slightly, I go to all the movies that come out and shit.

ML: I read in a previous interview that you’ve read about a book about communism, so it seems like you would be up to date with political things, what do you think is the state of the US government?

Apathy: Well when I was talking about reading the book about communism, before it wasn’t modern day communism. I wasn’t reading it because it had to do with communism; I was just reading it because it was my favorite author. It’s just she just happened to be writing about communism. It was this lady Ayn Rand, she writes about philosophical objectivism, and basically that’s just putting a twist on reality, and looking at things from a different perspective. It was a book called ‘We the Living’ and it took place in communist Russia back in early 1900s, and it was just a really really profound ill book. I really try not to get too involved in politics now and days because I used to be so gung-ho about it when I was younger. I used to be a part of Zulu nation, and this other crew Alien Nation and really be all about metaphysics, spirituality, religion, politics, conspiracies, new world order shit, everything, all of that, that was my life, I lived it. And the older I got, the more I realized, how much of your life you can waste sitting around worrying about that type of shit as to opposed to just living life. Life is short man, and to sit there and to waste time dwelling on what some other person is doing. I’m sure there are other people out there where it makes them happier in life to have a mindset where they want to change the world, or do something here and there, or have a cause or a purpose. And that’s good for them as individuals, but for me as an individual I personally would like to focus more on my friends and family, and my life and learning other things. There is so much to learn and to deal with in life; you just can’t do it all, so I’d rather do something else, me personally. But politics is cool and it’s interesting for other people to be involved with but I just don’t waste my time holding interest with it anymore.

ML: You’d rather try to put all that energy toward something else?

Apathy: Exactly, something more positive, cause politics is a negative and its fucking crazy.

ML: Any other books you are reading at the moment?

Apathy: Nah, I have not had a chance to read in a long time and that disappoints me, I really wish I had more time. There is a book that I always read ‘Tuesdays with Maury’, it’s a real dope book. It’s one of my favorite books, and I’ve read it twice already, and I just keep it around and just skim through it and read my highlighted notes in it I have.

ML: I know Celph-Titled was a big part of your album, but do you think there is going to be an album in the future with you guys as a duo?

Apathy: Celph and I are always going to be doing stuff, so it’s inevitable. He is standing like 2 feet from me right now. Celph and I talk together everyday on the phone so you know?

ML: What do you think the future holds for Demigodz?
Apathy: We’re trying to get Demigodz to do major label shit right now, we want to bring back the feeling of that old Wu-Tang type feel, that Wu-Tang gave to us when we were young as far as a crew hitting the mainstream and blowing up but still being grimey and still being hip hop and still being real. Everybody’s got a crew; we want a crew of individuals, not just a dude and his crew.

ML: So a family where everyone contributes?

Apathy: Exactly, all their own personalities.

ML: I wanted to go through the track listing of you album, and you tell me a sentence or two about each track, is that cool?

Apathy: Yeah, hell yeah.

ML: Eastern Philosophy.

Apathy: That’s the title track, that sets it off and sets the whole mood for the album that talks about living life on the east and just little details about it. It’s just basically the preface and the intro for the album.

ML: 1,000 grams

Apathy: That’s just some shit talk shit. Just real braggadocios ill shit.

ML: All about Crime

Apathy: All about Crime is literary about all aspects of crime, not just gangster, gangster, hustler, hustler shit, street shit. It’s about every aspect of crime even from white collar, blue collar to Martha Steward doing the crazy stock market shit. It’s everything, talking about crime from the beginning of time.

ML: 9 to 5

Apathy: 9 to 5 is about striving for something better. When I have a 9 to 5 job I feel trapped and I feel claustrophobic and crazy. It’s about me striving as a person to do something better because I really can’t work 9 to 5’s anymore and it’s just the stress and the pressure of having a 9 to 5 and just trying to do something big.

ML: Here come the gangstas

Apathy: Here come the gangstas is talking about peoples misconceptions about some of the shit that I talk about. And its about fake gangster dudes, I mean as cliché as that is, but I really talk about it. If people first hear that hook and they think oh he is talking about he is a gangster, that’s not it at all. The best line that I say in one of my verses is “You swear to god you gangster gangster/but reality will rearrange ya”.

ML: Can’t Leave Rap Alone

Apathy: Can’t Leave Rap Alone that’s a posse cut with me, Celph Titled and Ryu. That just another shit talk joint, just another posse cut battle rap joint about rapping.

ML: One of Those Days

Apathy: One of Those Days is about stress and drama with the females. Whether she is on her period, or she’s being possessive and jealous and shit. And then the 3rd verse is about a girl who is materialistic, a goldigger type chick. So it’s just the stress and drama of females.

ML: Me and My Friends

Apathy: Me and My Friends is a throwback track that’s got me, One-Two and Celph on it, and we’re all talking about a mixture of things that reminded us of the early 90s, late 80s, and also I told them both to put in where we reminisce about hip hop and reminisce about actual friends and actual events that happened to us. The names we say in there are really old memories and old friends that we have.

ML: Chemical

Apathy: I’m surprised I wrote that in one day, that song really surprised me when I finished it, and that’s one of my favorite songs on the album. That’s talking about all of the chemicals that’s our daily dependency, whether it’s through food, or through the products that we use, through the water, through the air, through everything. All of the chemicals that are introduced into our body , and how normal that is in our society, how chemical we are just because of all these things that we live with every single day.

ML: Do Raker Check

Apathy: Do Raker Check that’s just another shit talking joint, I got a Clique called Do Rakers, and Motive who is in the Demigodz as well, Mo and I are part of another clique called Do Rakers. That is just basically a shit talking joint, crazy, show off rap shit.

ML: Philosophical Gangster

Apathy: Philosophical Gangster once again was talking about being in a mind state where everybody overuses the term gangster now and days. And when Nas said on that ‘Thief’s Theme’ song, philosophical gangster, that really stood out to me. I thought that was a real ill duality, that was a ill balance, an intellectual person whose down to do whatever they got to do by any means.

ML: I Remember

Apathy: I Remember was one of the last songs we added to the album. That song right there is one of the most personal songs on the album to me. It starts off with a little skit where my mother is trying to get me to go to school or get a job or help out somehow. That was actually happening, my mother was kind of yelling at me, like you better find something to do, either get a job or finish school or do something, I don’t know what you think you are going to do living this life like this, just running around rapping doing nothing. It starts off and I talk about Connecticut, where in Connecticut I’m from. People have big misconception about Connecticut. They thing that shit is plush and nice, Connecticut is grimey, Connecticut is shitty, Connecticut is desolate, Connecticut is trash, and there’s nice spots too but. So I’m talking all about Connecticut and everything I went through and reminiscing about my hip hop experiences in my life. That’s a big introspective song right there for me.

ML: The Buck Stops Here

Apathy: The Buck Stops Here follows the path of a single dollar bill. It’s like seeing life through the eyes of a dollar bill and from person to person. Just imagine what a dollar bill sees. That’s one object that gets to be shared from person to person, all different types of lives, and crosses all different [things].

ML: The Winter

Apathy: The Winter is like the hell that winter is. I think if anything would be hell, it’s not fire and brimstone it’s fucking freezing cold, everything is dead, everything is grimy, everything is shitty. The winter is just a time that always bothers me, I say in rhymes ‘something in my soul dies every single time/ that it’s winter time”. Like I said it’s like a parallel hell with Satan freezing, the winter hurts.

ML: I know what you mean, being in Buffalo right now.

Apathy: Yea and you know this winter has been mild, this has been the nicest winter, global warming whatever [laughs], that shit hurts emotionally.

ML: Last thing I'm going to ask you is, you said gangster is an overused term, what else do you think is overused in hip hop?

Apathy: I can sit here all day long and say hustler, people talk about hustling, people wanting to be involved in that whole hustling aspect. People popping shit about how ill they are, or the violent shit, all that is just overkill. Especially all that hustler shit, everybody wants to be a hustler, everybody thinks they are hustler, whether its drug shit or hustling the business that they do. Just kill the term.

Many of you may know him as the Chef from South Park but his musical genius extends far past his Chocolate Salty Balls. This man is one of the best sampled men in all of hip-hop. To name all the classic songs which sample him would create a list that could consume the page (in fact it consumes this page) instead I'll name my favorite:

Walk on By. Listen to this song!!! I really never even realized how much hip-hop history could be covered in one song until I heard this shit. Biggie sampled this, Wu-Tang sampled this, Alicia Keys, Cypress Hill, Pete Rock, and the list continues. Most importantly though its a great song all on its own.

E-40 Mean Grillin'

The slang guru from the west coast E-40 has a new album coming out march 14th. He just dropped a video which I really dig, it features some nice up-side down shots ala Missy's video with Ciara. It also has gully dancers that dance on the hood of moving vehicles, which I should start doing ASAP. A tribute to Mac Dre at the end is a nice touch. The most suprising thing about this for me is Lil Jon did the beat but it dosen't sound like something from his catalog as its lacking his signature whistles, probably his most original and best beat I've heard in a while.. well he kinda did go AWOL in 2005 (which was hard on me, I couldn't drink my 'Crunk Juice' without tearing up). Metallungies hollers @ Young RJ!

Young RJ in the flesh.

Recently I was able to talk with a man who looks to play a big role in the new generation of beat makers, but one that has a resume looks more veteran then rookie, Young RJ. Recording with everyone from Detroit legends Slum Village to Three Six Mafia, to Proof of D12 (who he even would go on to tour worldwide with as the sound engineer). You get a sense of how Young RJ lives for his workmanship, when asked about his favorite Slum Village moment, it wasn't getting to meet some big name or partying it up, but instead he listed the time when Slum Village told him to keep working and improve his beats. He realizes that practice will get him far and that is why day in, day out, practice is what consumes him. When we caught up with Young RJ, he was out of the studio, he was on his way to get some 2-inch tapes baked (that’s analog tape restoration for you non-music lingo people), even when he has some rare time out of the studio, it’s something that is related to his craft. Don’t think Young RJ is in it for the shine or the popularity, that is clearly not the case as he noted when he was in High School, few knew about what he did after the daily homework assignments were done (which was always had to be completed before any tracks could be worked on). This was the stepping stone for Young RJ to succeed Jay Dee aka Dilla as the in-house guy for Slum Village, which if any of you have heard Dilla’s work, are quite some shoes to fill, but Young RJ has shown with his love and dedication for the music that he is definitely up to the task. But don't think this talent for making records came out of nowhere, Young RJ is blessed with a music bloodline of Grammy nominated father RJ Rice who had his own R&B/Soul group ‘R.J.’s Latest Arrival’ that lasted for more than 2 decades. Outside of his father (who actually owns the label to which Slum Village is signed on to), Young RJ enjoys quite an eclectic mix of influences and music he looks to for inspiration to put into his own work, everything from Stereo Lab to the late great Marvin Gaye. Recently he and his partner Black Milk who together form BR Gunna (which could be the next producing group to be everywhere you turn ala Trackmasters/Neptunes) put out Dirty District Vol.2, with guest spots by big names such as Jay Dee aka Dilla (When I asked about Dilla’s state of health, Young RJ said he has improved a lot, which I don’t need to tell you is awesome news), MC Breed, Slum Village and Phat Kat. The album earned a good amount of critical acclaim, but Young RJ looks to take to a whole another level by collaborating with the some of the same artists in addition to names that include the likes of Nore, 3 Six Mafia, Skillz, to follow up with Volume 3, which he expects to be out in time for the warm months of the summer & spring.

Oh yeah what is his favorite thing to do outside of making his original sounding music? Is it sports ("I don't have time for it")? Nope, there is no other thing he’d rather do then make his music, you can see this man is completely dedicated to becoming a top beat maker in this hip-hop shit. It is clear when he sees his work, like one of the Slum Village track’s he produced in advertisement campaign for Chevy (yes, the same Chevy that makes your pimped out Tahoe), it inspires him and motivates him even more. In my complete honest opinion it is totally within his grasp, and he will be working be working with everyone in the rap game from Nas to Phat Kat like he aspires to. That's what I want right now after such a season

Congrats to the Redskins, there was a lot of positives this season, while some negatives (which have a whole different view thanks to NFL films), I'll miss the Portis costumes (RIP Jerome from Southeast), the Cooley touchdowns, (Marcus) Washingon's energy, Ray Brown becoming a stable on the O-Line at age 95, Some of the craziest crowds since moving from RFK at the games. But even after such a disappointing loss in which we hung in the whole game, you have to give it up to the whole team. The whole season they kept on going even when they were counted out, even by ML. But such a season rejuvenated all hope in the team and I've never looked forward more to training camp then now. Now if we keep the defense intact and just do some tweaks here and there we should be ready to go. HAIL (*no nazi*).

2006 is going to be another big year for music. One of the people that is looking to have a real big 2006 is Crooked I who is one of the best artists on the West Coast right now. He was once picked by Suge Knight to be the star of Death Row Records in it's post-tupac era, he recorded a lot of tracks for compilations and mixtapes which gained him a lot of buzz, but his solo album never surfaced (as have a lot of things on Tha Row as of late). But now with his own label popping off called Dynasty the much anticipated debut of Crooked I is definitely on the way in 2006. We were able to get in touch with Crooked I, and had a really good time seeing what he had up his sleeves and what his views were on various issues.

ML: Hey what up, what’s going on with you?

Crooked I: All kinds of things man, trying to get it going, you know what I’m saying?

ML: Good weather outside right now in Cali? are you in Cali?

Crooked I: Yea, I’m In Cali man.

ML: Enjoying the Weather?

Crooked I: Yes sir, 72 degrees!

ML: Nice! Better then the 30 degrees I’m freezing in right now.

Crooked I: Where you at?

ML: I’m in Maryland right now, but I go to school in Buffalo where it’s like 4 degrees.

Crooked I: Wow!

ML: First off, one of the first freestyles I’ve heard from you was that freestyle on Sway & Tech over the [Clipse’s] gridin beat, and when I heard that my jaw dropped, its one of my favorite freestyles of all time, I really think if any one can bring the west back it can be you, so what do you have upcoming? What projects are you working on?

Crooked I: Well I’m working on a DVD, we just finally finished, edited it, it looks nice. I was trying to get it out before Christmas, but I missed it by just about a couple of days. We are gonna put that out first in January it’s called ‘Life after Death Row’. It’s a very good piece man, it’s a documentary but it also has Russell Simmons, Master P, Bun B, WC, just different people in there. A lot of these DVDs man, they just go around with a camera you know, with no real storyline. I think people will gain something from listening to these people talk about the different things that they’ve been through. It has a mini-soundtrack with it, with 8 brand new songs on it, that you get for free when you purchase that. I got my mixtape Young Boss Vol.2, I just did that one. We got that revved up, ready to go in January as well. Then I got the album, Bossman, the movement, the album is a good album, I really think people will enjoy it as far as west coast music goes. I will have to get some of my supporters to really adjust to the sound, cause some of the sounds is not typical west coast.

ML: But I think that’s what you gotta do to put the west into a new era, you gotta bring that new sound, you know?

Crooked I: I think so man, we can’t be in the same little cycle over here, the people that are in power over here, they pretty much put out the same type of music, you know what I’m saying? We gotta really break that cycle and bring a new era in. And that’s what I’m hoping I’ll be able to do man, you know there a lot of people here that don’t have deals yet or that have brand new record deals, that will be bringing a new sound themselves, but someone gotta open the door for it to go down. So we gonna go out and go hard on em and try to make it happen.

ML: Is ex-Bad Boy Loon gonna be on that DVD too?

Crooked I: Yea, I got on Loon on their, Loon is my buddy, Loon is a good dude. His career is somewhat parallel to mine from the other side, cause he was on Bad Boy for 4 years, I was on Death Row for 4 years and some change. Around the same time he left Bad Boy I left Death Row. There are similarities in our journey. He’s got some things to say. People will probably be surprised cause that dude right there is well informed with West Coast music.

ML: Do you have a concrete date for the DVD to come out or is it just January?

Crooked I: I’m thinking like January 21st to drop it, and I’ll put the trailer on the first week of January on different websites.

ML: That’s gonna be on www.westcoastdynasty.com right?

Crooked I: Yea, and I’m gonna see if I can get it to run on other hip-hop websites as well.

ML: What about a date for the mixtape, do you know when that’s gonna be hitting the streets?

Crooked I: You know what, I really want to put that out like the first week of January. I really wanna go hard in January. I want to put the first single out in late January. I want the DVD to drop on the 21st of January. And I want the mixtape to be out in the first week of January. So January is gonna be a very big month for me. I’m trying to put it all out there and go hard.

ML: Is Boom Boom Clap going to be the first single?

Crooked I: Oh na na, that was just a little buzz thing. I felt that I needed something to show people that hey I’m still over here homie, I’m doing my thing. We put that Boom Boom Clap together just a little buzz, to keep my name in the mix, to let people know I’m still over here cause you know there were a lot of rumors going around that I was still on Death Row Records. So I wanted to show the people that hey look, we got a new situation, and here is proof of it. We got a little buzz song out there; we did a uncut video for it. That was that, it served its purpose too. But now its time to him em hard, time to hit em real hard.

ML: I heard the song you had with a 50 Cent sample, “I got a mil out the deal”, is that going to be on an album or a mixtape? Cause that shit was hot!

Crooked I: Oh thank you man, It’s just gonna be a download. It was a lot of controversy too, out here in the west when people first heard that because there was a little feud going between 50 Cent and The Game. And a lot of people were going damn, why this dude doing songs with 50 Cent samples, you know what I’m saying.

ML: But it came out hot!

Crooked I: Yea, that’s all I worried about! (Laughs)

ML: Can you talk about your relationship with Sway & Tech? How have they helped you in your career?

Crooked I: Sway & Tech, are real standup guys, throughout out my whole career I’ve been able to do whatever I want with them. They always invite me to their projects, any project I’m doing, I invite them. They have artists, hey, I rock with their artists for free. Whatever they want because throughout the whole thing I’ve been knowing them for about 9-10 years now. To know anybody in the business for 10 years and still have a good relationship with them is kind of rare sometimes in the industry. Because things happen, things fall apart. Sway & Tech invited me on their show one night; they kind of didn’t really expect me to be able to come with what I came with. Cause at the time they invited me, they played a lot of east coast material and a lot of east coast MC’s were the main guests of their shows. I come straight of the block man, Eastside Long Beach. I think Thug-Life was there, a lot of the Wu-Tang was there, Killa-Army was there, and everybody was just rapping. And I just come out of nowhere spittin’, and these dudes are like “What??”. Clark Kent was there, and Clark Kent like “Yo, who is this dude right here??”. We just had fun that whole night. After that, our relationship began to grow, to the point I come to their house they come to my house, we have fun, kick it. It became more of a friendship, but throughout they’ve always supported me so I gotta give up love to them at all times.

ML: You mentioned Long Beach, when you were growing up in Long Beach, what kind of music were you listening to?

Crooked I: You know what, I was into so much, I tried absorb as much as I could. I would have anybody from Ice Cube and NWA, that was a heavy favorite of mine, Eazy-E, Ice T, The D.O.C., and then I loved the Ghetto Boys when they dropped. Out east it was always Rakim Allah, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Krs-One, Run DMC, LL [Cool J]. I just absorbed it like a sponge. Music was really my life, rap and hip-hop was my life. I still want all the consumers to be on that page, I don’t like when a dude’s CD changer is kind of bias. I like it when you got East, West, some South, some Midwest, because it’s a lot of talent across the whole map, and we can’t really discriminate on each other, we gotta be really open to each others music.

ML: You mentioned the south, what do you think of the music in the south?

Crooked I: Man the music in the south, it’s a beautiful thing, because they making a lot of noise right now. They got pushed to the side homie, in a real way; they had to create their own their industry. They didn’t have what we have in LA, and what New York has, as far as Capitol Records is down the street. They didn’t have all that. So, it turned them into entrepreneurs, they had to go sell out the trunk, they had to go make their own club scene hot, they had to go get radio support on their own. And It ended up being a better thing for them, because now they got control of the game somewhat, they are enjoying better contracts then a lot of people get because they were already selling independently. The south, that’s a cool story, its kind of re-teaching everybody in hip hop to not always lean on major corporations and to get out there on your own and put that grind in. That’s what a lot of them dudes did, so I got nothing but respect.

ML: Can you talk about your group the Horseshoe gang, do they have an album coming out or any other projects, and just what is the group about in general?

Crooked I: The horseshoe gang them all are my little brothers, 3 of them are my little brothers and one of them is my step-brother. I taught them how to rap when they were young, when they were 5 years old, I used to write two lines at a time for them and make them remember them, and when I came home they had to tell me the two lines. So when they 5,6,7,8,9 they just kept rapping on their own, now, they are incredible. They don’t really wanna rap about everything going on in the world like me. A person like me, I’ll rap about anything. They really just like a couple things to rap about and hey, to each his own. They like that battle rap scene, that lyrically destroying people, they like that microphone murder like Rakim. “Haven’t you ever heard of a mc murderer”, they love that type. Their album will be serving a lot of MC’s on a MC talk, they gonna be up their getting into it. So its like that’s a good thing, and the g.a.n.g. stands for grind and never give up, so its even not at all about a gang, you feel me? You got these young brothers and they doing they thing, and they’re real focused and they’re disciplined, and I got a lot stuff from them in 06. You gonna hear them on my project, you gonna hear them on the mixtapes, you gonna hear them on the mini-soundtrack, then we gonna start working on their project.

ML: So it’s much more of a family, then it is a gang?

Crooked I: Yea, It’s a family, and we trying just like Dynasty, that’s my label and that’s something I want to pass down, and have them pass it down, a successful family business is what I plan Dynasty to be.

ML: With Dynasty you finally have your own label situation, after putting work in for years and years, how does it feel to finally know you have a major album coming and you have your chance to shine?

Crooked I: Oh man, its crazy, its like one side of you, you’re very happy, you ready to go, the other side, you wanna make sure everything is right, and you wanna make sure that you’ve done what you can creatively to try to bring something to the table that was expected of you. It’s a lot of up and down feelings, but on the whole I feel great. I went through a long journey, a lot of these rappers I hear them say, I went straight to the league, I’m a rookie and I’m already platinum. I hear a lot of rappers talking about they just started rapping 2 years ago, well that ain’t me. I’ve been doin this since I was a shorty, I’ve been loving hip-hop and the whole culture since I was young. I wouldn’t trade my life for the next dude that did blow up overnight, because I feel like I paid my dues, I feel like I’m seasoned, and I feel like I understand the culture part of it more then a cat that just walks in and says “Well you know, I just started rapping last year and I’m already platinum so I feel sorry for you other guys”. When I hear that, it’s like you don’t even understand this culture, but its cool. But I wouldn’t trade it for nothing it feels great, we gonna put out an album and we got more albums to come and we gonna keep moving ahead, so I feel good man.

ML: Going back to Dynasty Records, another west coast rapper which I think is a part of the new era is Sly Boogy, are you going to be working with him on anything? Would you consider signing him to Dynasty Records?

Crooked I: Man, Sly Boogy is a talent, you know I did a show with Sly Boogy about a couple of weeks ago in Hollywood, we had a show together. Sly Boogy is incredible man, I’ve done songs with him for his album, and I’ve worked with him on other projects. I think you’re right, as far when it comes to the new west you definitely gotta mention Sly Boogy period. You’re only seeing a sample peek at his talent listening to his singles, the dude is crazy. That dude right there, he somebody to definitely look for. He has a situation with J Records but I just don’t think they are doing him right in my opinion. I don’t know all the particulars, but in my opinion they can be doing him a lot better.

ML: Can you touch on your situation with Snoop, is there any beef or tension between you guys, or was it more due to your previous label situation?

Crooked I: Yea we had a little, it wasn’t nothing though. He said some things, I said some things, and it was done. My whole thing was I went over there and I sat down with Suge Knight himself in the penitentiary, when I first did my record deal and I told him I’m not really gonna engage in no rap battles with nobody in Snoop’s camp. And I said I understand that you guys have issues, and that’s a business issue, I don’t feel like we should be brining it to the microphone one. Two, these guys are from Long Beach I’m from Long Beach it would make me look real stupid to just come over here sign with you and all the sudden I’m talking shit about everybody in Long Beach. The only thing is when Snoop took the first strike at me, it kind of disappointed me because if I haven’t said anything about you and I’ve been over here for a year, two years, and you never heard a negative comment come out of my mouth then why would you? He had a mixtape called the Church volume 1 or volume 2 or something like that. Where he did a little skit where he was like “Crooked I, best in the west, best in the west” and the guy whoever said it, got beat up, and then he made some comments. So I made a song, and it was a big underground hit over here on the west. The thing about it is, I saw him at a hip hop summit at USC, we talked, pretty much everything was squashed and it was all good. I’ve seen him since then and I’ve said my wassups and he said his wassups. I don’t have any kind of problem with Snoop Dogg or his camp. But, I’m really so focused on building the new Long Beach sound that sometimes we on two different sidewalks.

ML: I just wanted to ask you about some other artists like your former label mate Eastwood going to Black Wall Street and Spider Loc going to G-Unit, what do you think about those moves?

Crooked I: Yea man, Eastwood is over there, Spider Loc is over on G-Unit. I talked to Eastwood the other day and he’s on Black Wall Street, and I understand the moves, because I’ma be real with you, over here record deals aren’t just falling out the sky on the west coast. Ever since 2pac passed the numbers have dropped tremendously for west coast record sales. Sometimes a guy is offered a deal, and he gotta take what he gets. Him being on Black Wall Street, that could be a good move for him, if everything goes right and he’s happy then that’s the right move. If Spider is happy on G-Unit then that’s the right move. My whole thing about it is, we all came up together and I would hate to see a beef occur between the two due to their bosses beefing. I don’t want to see that because the whole thing about west coast beef is slightly different, people can die really, people around your entourage can get hurt and people go to jail, and then it become a war. And then you look back and say for what? I would be disappointed if 50 Cent was trying to encourage Spider to beef with these guys, and I would be disappointed if Game was trying to encourage Eastwood. Because really to be honest, I really believe in my heart that everybody needs to sit down and talk about all this stuff. We need to prevent a war from happening, because if this war happens it’s gonna be ugly, its gonna be really ugly, because everybody got guns, everybody got soldiers, everybody got everything, anything that you need, the perfect recipe for murder, everybody got it. So what I believe, and what I’m going to try to do, is assemble a conference going probably without the media, just to sit these guys down. Because I’m hearing some things and I’m seeing things on the internet, and I really don’t want this to escalate. Because it will get ugly, and there is no need, because we all came up together, it’s enough money for everybody, and me I’m neutral and I got love for people on both sides.

ML: And by doing that they are moving away from the main focus, which is the music, instead of putting out music they are doing other non sense, you know?

Crooked I: Yea, they are moving away from the main focus, and me I believe the west coast is a body. Someone one is the arms, somebody is the legs, somebody is the whatever. We can’t keep harming our own selves; your not going to cut off your own arm are you? Because the real deal is nobody is going to be able to make money over here when them bullets get to flying like that. Because now not only does the media not want to do business with West Coast artist, concert promoters are not going to want to do business with us, your not going to be welcomed at award ceremonies. You are not going to be welcomed no where, all because we got these big feuds going where two people can’t be in the same place at once. So we got to sit down and fix that.

ML: Because the west coast needs to work on making the music, like you said it’s much easier to get a deal as a east coast artist then a west coast artist as it is, so by beefing that isn’t going to help the cause to make more deals for artist if the labels see all they do is beef and not make music, then there are only going to be less opportunities for everybody that comes after them you know?

Crooked I: There is not, and we are really robbing the future of west coast hip-hop. Because all the young kids waiting, going to college, studying music, becoming producers, managers, executives, rappers, artists. All them guys that are waiting to be the next wave of west coast music are going to get held up by us. Because we are over here killing the buisnesss oppertunites, by having shootouts and all this stuff. That’s the whole thing. I wouldn’t blame MTV or BET if they banned certain artists from music awards ceremonies and all that. Because my thing is we are here to make music, we here to make money, we here to provide for our people that we love. We gotta get on the right page over here, because if we don’t we are going to sink.

ML: Speaking of beef, what did you think about the ‘peace treaty’ if you will, that happened last month between Jay-Z & Nas?

Crooked I: You know what, I really liked that, because everybody was waiting for Jay-Z to get on stage and start shitting on everybody. And he flipped it to where it was a peace treaty amongst people that haven’t been on stage in a long time together. That was a good move, but I’ve seen a lot people were disappointed because people love drama, people love controversy, people love beef. But he showed you, hey it don’t gotta be that. Peace is more powerful then beef, because peace you can create money, opportunities, you can create longevity, future, its all type of stuff you can create with peace. We gotta understand that, that’s stronger then beef. So I really liked that move. Even with the QDIII Beef DVDs, I’ll watch them. It’s entertaining, it’s got something crazy about this guy, this guy is making a mockery of this guy, you know? But now its time for somebody to put out peace treaty DVDs, the ones that made up. Get them on camera together and talk about how stupid it was to beef, and let the kids know that just because we all grew up in the ghetto and we live hard lives and all this shit, that don’t mean we ignorant. All the people in the street they don’t like that beef shit, my older homeboys and all my homeboys in Long Beach that have survived different real beefs, they don’t want to go back to that, they want to leave that alone. But, these rappers want to keep it up.

ML: Another thing I wanted to ask you about is what did you think about the whole Lox and Diddy publishing dispute?

Crooked I: I didn’t really get into it, but I saw it, I just say hey, if you owe somebody, pay them. My whole thing is you always gotta cross that bridge again, you never know, one day Puffy might need help from Jadakiss or from Styles P. Look Andre Harrell used to work over Puffy but now he works for him. So it’s like you never know, so why not treat the people fairly that worked with you, did the work, and they deserve the money, give it to them.

ML: With 2005 coming to a close what is your favorite moment of the year?

Crooked I: This is my favorite moment of 2005, when Tookie Williams [was set to be executed], I was watching TV and you know he is a crip, sworn enemies of bloods. And I saw some Bloods on the Fox News network, they held up AK-47s, Uzis, and different types of machine guns, some real heaters. They said we pledge these guns off the streets and more like them if you spare Tookie William’s life. And these were bloods, very historic moment; nobody really made a big deal out of it. But that was historical, because they could go to jail for just holding those guns. They kept their promise they put some of the guns in a cardboard box, they called the police, the police came over and they came and picked the guns up. And an officer said hey, we would love to get more of these guns off the streets; because the more guns that are off the streets the less murder. When I saw that right there, I knew that we still have people out there that want to see change, and that was one of my highlights.

ML: Are you into sports, are you a sports fan out there in LA?

Crooked I: Oh yea, fo sho, I’m a Raider and a Laker for life, no matter what happens.

ML: How do you feel about their state right now?

Crooked I: Man I love the Lakers, there was two egos on that court it was Shaq & Kobe, and they tried to shift the blame on Kobe. But if I’m [Lakers owner Jerry] Buss, I understand, I might go with the younger cat too that’s going to be around a long time. We gotta rebuild. But right now we over .500, Kobe scored 63 in 3 quarters the other day, hey, I’m a happy Lakers fan. I understand it’s gonna take time to rebuild, its not going to turn around quick like that. Like our starting 5 is really like a starting 2 ½ maybe. We still need some more players, Latrell Sprewell is sitting out, go get him or something. Kwame Brown, he’s getting better but he gotta get his hands better, he dropping all the balls, he got some butterfingers dog (Laughs). But we got Kareem working with him, so maybe Kareem can give him something, but his hands, he gotta get his hands up.

ML: If Kareem can’t help him I don’t know who can.

Crooked I: If Kareem doesn’t help him, I don’t know what he is doing after that man (Laughs).

ML: What about the Raiders?

Crooked I: The Raiders, they symbolize the struggle, I love them, even though right now, Kerry Collins, oh my god, get that guy out of there, even Norv Turner get him out of there. What is he doing? We got Randy Moss, they should’ve automatically knew that we was gonna need a better quarterback. You put 2 seconds of pressure on Collins and he is going to throw an interception. I think that dude got the record last year for interceptions thrown. Those two guys gotta be removed quickly, because Norv he doesn’t know what the hell he is doing. Al Davis, he is just a tough man to work for, because that dude right there. The Raiders I love them because they symbolize what we stand for, the underdogs, societies outcast, you know what I mean (Laughs)?

ML: Do you pay any attention to the LA Kings?

Crooked I: You know what, I haven’t in a long time, ever since Gretzky.

ML: Oh yeah, was Gretzky leaving the end for you?

Crooked I: That was the end for me, when Gretzky dipped out, I said peace (Laughs).

ML: One other thing I wanted to ask you is, you seem to be well informed on world and current issues going on, what do you think about the job our president is doing right now?

Crooked I: Man to be honest, I’m not likening the job that he is doing. To me in America heroes and villains have a thin line between them. Some people look at a guy like a hero others like a villain. I have to respect Bush for this, that motherfucker is a cowboy; he rides for what he believes in. Now, I don’t think that it’s right, the whole oil situation, Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with Al-Qadea, he didn’t even have weapons of mass destruction, they didn’t find anything, we blatantly are in Iraq getting oil. And a lot of people are losing their lives, I support the troops because they are over and I want them to come home safe. But I wish they weren’t over there, because they are over there to me, some bullshit. But, I have to say this dude, this dudes a rider, because he gets up there and they say well, Mr. Bush you’ve been invading peoples privacy, yup I’ve done it on 30 different occasions. Recently we here at Metallungies were able to ask some questions to Delon. For those of you who don’t know who Delon is, you damn well should. He is a rapper that is very refreshing to hear, nothing like we here at ML have ever heard before. His Sri Lankan & Latin background fuses with everything that he experienced growing up in Los Angeles. This creates some of the most diverse lyrics in English, Spanish and Sinhalese, with a sound that is equally diverse. With such a rich background Delon is looking to and will have a huge 2006. He is currently on a sold out mini-tour in Sri Lanka.

ML: What upcoming projects are coming for you, and who are you working with?

Delon: I am now working on my mix tape that will release in March. I am working with the 306 allstars. This includes: Sef, Lex, Choice, and Derrese It is going to be a hot project. Also, working with the legend of doom dj's.

ML: You are multi-talented when it comes to music, what is your favorite aspect of it?

Delon: Performing. I love to perform. To have thousands of people yelling and scream and having a good time, makes me feel like I have accomplished what I set out to do.

ML: Due to your Sri Lanka roots, how did you react to the Tsunami tragedy earlier in the year?

Delon: I WAS THERE. Probably one of the most depressing days of my life. Even now, I am in Sri Lanka and the country is still is shambles. I am doing everything I can to get my people back on their feet. I work with a non-profit organization called Sri Lanka Foundation and we are building house and giving food and much more.

Apparently these three dudes got in a scuffle with this other guy at a Loews movie theater in PA and then shot the sorry bastard. The action taken by the movie theater: Remove the film they were watching. The film was (as you prob guessed from the pic) Get Rich or Die Tryin'. All this tells me is that the bitches at Loews corporate might want to consider a raise to the $6 an hour pay for new employees. I used to work at one of them shits and I swear on the good lord jesus that if some punk came in there bustin shots I would use the customers as human shields. Employees there are so unhappy that they might be holdin a burner too. When I worked there half my co-workers were former crack dealers from Lincoln Park (like a project in MoCo) and they all had a history with the law. After all, you don't work for $6 an hour for the hope of a 10 cent raise in 6 months.

Moral of the rant, next time you get pissed off in a movie be it Elizabethtown, Pride and Prejudice, or anything. Just shoot one of your fellow viewers and your movie theater will be safe from the menace.

For the sake of our ears, I hope the following do no such thing. For real, make a cookbook (for a kitchen, not for a meth lab) of recipes or some shit.

The most recent one is the Indy Colts, have recorded a rap song.. on second thought, if they make the superbowl and have a 2006-version of the 83'bears superbowl shuffle, so I guess I will wait before officially denouncing this rap effort, but may I suggest a different title then "Go Colts" how about "We Gon Kill You (on the field only, followed by a co-team prayer)".

After mis-conceived dreams that he can rap after some crackers cheered him at their championship victory, Tony Parker is coming out with a Rap Album?!?!? And he even got F-a-b-o-l-o-u-s on that shit.. (I'll let Fab slide because I'm pretty certain he got a fat check). There is even a video for this, and fucking Nazr Mohammed and Brent Barry are in it?? Why not just go all out and get Vinny Del Negro and Will Perdue in that shit? I can wait for the shoutouts for the producer team for the album "bon jour to le 'Polygrafic of Texas' Sound Scientists'". You cant make stuff like this up, but if you buy this, please kill yourself by jamming some spurs memorabilia down your throat (then ill mention you on ML for sure!!).

Tired and worn I return to bring the word!!!! The word is Guttah......allow me to elaborate. I was recently (6 hours ago) in the capitol of hip-hop, NYC. Sticking to my usual plan of gulliness I hit the streets in search of some shit that I could not photograph. After copping about 5 bootlegs I came upon this dude who was regailing passing folk with an invitation into his place of buisness (an unmarked building). I approached him to inquire about some DVDs and he said he had none, at this point a young man tapped on my shoulder to get my attention. He showed me this CD in a plain white sleeve and proceeded to say "Thats me and my brother man", so I copped it (5 bucks, why not?). I listened to his CD and for an off-the-block artist its pretty nice. So a shoutout to the Guttah Coalition. I give them the Track of the Day.

So it seems that our man Cassidy may be staying inside for a minute. I see this as a plus for him. Being locked up right before your album drops is marketing you just can not buy!!!! Maybe he can get himself a nice prison setup like good old Mr. Zekey. After all, he's a huslter.......right?

Like you needed another reason to hate Suge Knight, it turns out that he may have had a role in the murder of Biggie. Supposedly Mario Ha'mmond (some snitch he was in prison with) was told by Knight that he had organized the murder over a cellphone network. Finally after the non-stop party that is prom and graduation I can return to doing what I really love, giving money to the roc. Thats right, for those of you who haven't copped it you should seriously consider dropping a little paper on that new Memphis Bleek album. I won't say it surpasses the new Common (which is a purchase I would make in my sleep) but it definately is worth your cash. I personally reccomend the first track, I love when albums start out strong like that. The Swizzy track is nice too.

On the other side of the spectrum the new Common, all hype aside, is a masterpiece. This album is nothing but good music from beginning to end. I can't quite pick a favorite on this album yet, but I do like what they did with that live version of the food. Lethal and I both certify this as a **Classic Metal Lungies Approved.**

So it seems the Mash Out Posse has signed with the guerillas. Yes it has been confirmed by many that M.O.P. has officially signed with G-Unit records. They are supposedly in the final stages of working out the contract. I really expected Mobb Deep to sign with the unit first considering Alchemist is Em's new DJ.

So anyone with a pulse has heard this new R. Kelly mini-series type song which is titled "In the Closet". I love this, then again whenever R. Kelly goes on one of his stories or rants in a song it is usually good. 4 of the 5 parts are the track of the day.

So it seems that Kay Slay will be taking up the job of the late Justo in hosting the Mixtape Awards. Anything that feeds the mixtape industry is **Metal Lungies Approved.**

So if you weren't off getting arrested in MIA then you were probably getting your ass "beat like a slave" at the Snoop Dogg show. That whole story seems a little fishy. Why would a recording artist beat you and rob you just for dancing.

In this week's TIME, Christopher John Farley reveals why Dave Chappelle decided to leave his hit show and what he's been up to since he disappeared to South Africa two weeks ago. Last Friday night, TIME Johannesburg bureau chief Simon Robinson met with the comic at uShaka Marine World on the beach in the South African port of Durban. In a ninety minute conversation, Chappelle was eager to set the record straight on why he suddenly left the U.S. and what he's doing in South Africa. Here's Robinson's account:

Dave Chappelle shows up to our interview in a red t-shirt, blue jeans and shiny white sneakers. He lopes around in his usual style, pacing a lot, but does not seem like a man struggling to speak or to order his thoughts at all. He's lucid and thoughtful and a couple of times asks me to give him some time to think about answers. He concedes that he is dealing with a lot of issues and mentions that he had consulted a psychiatrist about a week ago for a forty minute session. He is also quite fastidious about keeping his new sneakers clean and stops at least twice to wipe smudges off their toes.

The first thing Chappelle wants is to dispel rumors—that he's got a drug problem, that he's checked into a mental institution in Durban—that have been flying around the U.S. for the past week. He says he is staying with a friend, Salim Domar, and not in a mental institution, as has been widely reported in America. Chappelle says he is in South Africa to find "a quiet place" for a while. "Let me tell you the things I can do here which I can't at home: think, eat, sleep, laugh. I'm an introspective dude. I enjoy my own thoughts sometimes. And I've been doing a lot of thinking here."

The picture he paints—and it seems a fairly honest and frank assessment— is of someone struggling to come to terms with a new position and power who's still figuring out how to come to grips with how people around him are reacting to the $50 million deal he signed last year with Comedy Central. Without naming specific characters, he seems to blame both some of his inner circle (not his family) and himself for the stresses created by last year's deal.

"There were things that overwhelmed me," he says. "But not in the way that people are saying. I haven't spent any of the money. All that stuff about partying and taking crack is not true. Why do I live on a farm in Ohio? To support my partying lifestyle?"

The problems, he says, started with his inner circle."If you don't have the right people around you and you're moving at a million miles an hour you can lose yourself," he says. "Everyone around me says, 'You're a genius!'; 'You're great!'; 'That's your voice!' But I'm not sure that they're right." And he stresses that Comedy Central was not part of the problem and put no more than normal television restrictions on what he could do.

"You got to be careful of the company you keep," Chappelle says. "It's hard to know how much to say. One of the things that happens when people make the leap from a certain amount of money to tens of millions of dollars is that the people around you dramatically change.

"During my ascent, I've seen other people go through that wall to become really big. They always said that fame didn't change them but that it changes the people around them. You always hear that but you never really understand it. But now that I'm there that makes a lot of sense and I'm learning what that means. You have to have people around you that you can trust and aren't just out for a meal ticket."

The breakdown in trust within his inner circle seems to have led him to question the material they were producing. He seems obsessed with making sure the material is good and honest and something that he will be proud. "I want to make sure I'm dancing and not shuffling," he says. "What ever decisions I make right now I'm going to have live with. Your soul is priceless." The first two seasons of his show "had a real spirit to them," he says. "I want to make sure whatever I do has spirit."

But Chappelle also says that he must share the blame for the stalled third season. "I'm admittedly a human being," he says. "I'm a difficult kind of dude." His earlier walkout during shooting "had a little psychological element to it. I have trust issues, things like that. I saw some stuff in myself that I just didn't dig. It's like when I brought a girl home to my mom and it looked as if my mom really didn't like this girl. And she told me, 'I like her just fine. I just don't like you around her.' That's how I feel in this situation. There were some things about myself that I didn't like. People got to take inventory from time to time. That's what this [coming to South Africa] is for."

This is Chappelle's second trip to South Africa. He first came to Durban, and visited Salim, in 2000. Chappelle won't tell me exactly how he met Salim but describes him as a family friend. A soft-spoken Muslim, Salim seems also to be something of a sounding board to Chappelle, who converted to Islam several years ago. While Chappelle is not doing a formal religious course in Durban, says Salim, who wore a simple cotton robe and hung back through the interview and photo shoot and only spoke when I asked him a question, "if he wants to talk religion then I'm there as someone to talk to." Says Chappelle: "This is kind of my spot where I can come to fill my spirit back up. Sometimes you neglect these things if you are running on a corporate schedule." The crux of his crisis seems to boil down to his almost obsessive need to "check my intentions." He uses the phrase a few times during the interview and explains that it means really making sure that he's doing what he's doing for the right reasons.

His family, he says, has been a huge support over the past eight months. "They've been phenomenal really, just incredible. What beautiful people. Everyone loves their family but it's good if you can like them too."

His religion is also crucial. "I don't normally talk about my religion publicly because I don't want people to associate me and my flaws with this beautiful thing. And I believe it is a beautiful religion if you learn it the right way. It's a lifelong effort. Your religion is your standard. Coming here I don't have the distractions of fame. It quiets the ego down. I'm interested in the kind of person I've got to become. I want to be well rounded and the industry is a place of extremes. I want to be well balanced. I've got to check my intentions, man."

That includes planning for the future. When I ask him if he would ever buy a place of his own in South Africa, Chappelle replies, "First of all I've got to make sure I've got a job."

He says that he's only been recognized five or six times in the two weeks he's been here. "It happens so sporadically that when it does it freaks me out because I have to remember, 'Oh, yeah, I'm famous.'" At the end of our interview/photo shoot an American woman does recognize him. "Number seven," he cries. "Wow, I'm not that big in Africa. I've got to do an action film here."

During most of the hour and a half that we talk, Chappelle is serious and introspective. But he still has his sense of humor, which comes out as we near the end of our conversation: "Is that enough to prove I'm not smoking crack or hanging out in a mental institution?"

The Lox will have a big presence on this album which makes it an insta-cop for me. The album will also feature big name folks like Cassidy, and Nore, and smaller names like Jin (who I hope has perfected studio rapping to the point where he can deliver a performance on par with his freestlye battles.) Keep a look out for this.

Dropping yet another good video, Game has released the video for the Kanye-produced Dreams. This was a great track on the album and this video has exactly what the Hate it or Love it vid had, a lot of editing. But seriously its a good video, watch it.

With a Friday not popping off, Hangover and I decided to head out to view Dame Dash's Dash Films latest venture the 2nd State Property (trailer) movie. The setup.. 2days into release the movie was being shown on definitely the smallest of the Regal Cinemas 13 screens. The audience was mostly minorities and in total there was about 15 people there. If you haven’t seen the original don’t worry, the first thing that happens is a recap of the first state property movie. The movie on the outside looks like a flossed up version of a low budget movie, with the cheesy special effects. But forget all that the movie teaches important vocabulary ie "figdafeelme" "surprise parties", important calculations on how much you lose when 3 keys get stolen and have to pay lawyers ($900,000).The movie it self is about rival groups fighting for the Philadelphia’s drug market. You get to see Noreaga play one of the hilarious characters dubbed El Pollo Loco, and Loon (FYI: thankfully only ex-bad boy in the movie)plays his father of when Loco was young. Genius. One of the workers for Dame's drug team are the *drum roll* DIPSET!! Seeing Juelz and Jimmy Jones being led by Cam decked out in a pink mink coat and a pink range rover as they go stick up a spot is worth the price of admission alone. But that’s not all you get to see a lot of your urban industry folks such as Freeway, Oschino, Omillo Sparks, Mariah Carey, Roselyn Sanchez, MOP, Kanye Tidah (Who comes through with a nice little cameo w/ a stabbing on a porch in Chicago), Some rocafella UK rap group affiliate, Young Gunz, some boxers, Nicole Wray, and so on. Pepa from Salt 'n' Pepa has been chosen as one of the cast members on the Surreal Life. She will join the Lethal-Approved show alongside Janice Dickinson, Jose Canseco, Omarosa, and Bronson Pinchot. My predictions for this season: Omarosa and Pepa will kill each other, and Jose Canseco will snitch to the cops, while Janice Dickinson dies of overeating, and Bronson Pinchot will walk away without any investigation because he insisted he was a "Perfect Stranger." Maybe this season will be the worst and help to "push it" off television. Damn I'm witty........

Because we all know tv + sports aren’t big in today’s society. So going down to the wire as the season starts the deal was reached, there will only be around 70 games shown in the DC area on the local UPN & FOX channels (owned by Rupert Murdoch). Why? Well because Mr. Oriole, the owner Peter Angelos straight up cock blocked it. He made it so that he had a bit under 100 Nats games air on his newly formed tv network and so he could make a profit (HE ph33rs the completion of the Nats). But here is the curveball, since this is completion to the cable giants Comcast’s own Comcast sportsnet there is no way in hell they will carry Angelo's network. So if you really want all the Nats games your only choice is DirectTV (Also owned by Rupert Murdoch).. Which surprise surprise will generate a monopoly of the DC market for Murdoch but it will put even more money back into Angelos' pocket. Ill go in say it, FUCK YOU PETER ANGELOS (No comment on Murdoch.. his son did start Rawkus :P). And Baseball isn’t even my favorite sport.

She was the wife of Michael Harris the man who helped him start Death Row Records. Harris gave $1.5 million in '91 to help start GF (Godfather) Entertainment, one of the divisions was to be Death Row Records. If you want to hear the full story watch "Welcome to Death Row". The Beanie Sigel is a very solid album except for the rehashes of old tracks such as "its on" and the killa cam cam callabo "wanted (on the run)" (sorry Mark), My favorite tracks are "feel it in the air" on which Beanie says some of the truest shit he has ever spit and "one shot deal" which has a very dope Redman verse. The new video for "don’t stop" is out"

Since I know you've been hearing it, many of you are probably asking "What the fuck is Flavploitation?" Well, our good man Chuck-D describes it as "the systematic one-sidedness of the production companies that are chosen by these big corporate entities." I would put it in the simpler terms of Strange Love makes Flavor Flav look like a ignorant SOB.

I just came back from a nasty bout of the flu and as soon as I find domething newsworthy it has to be this.........N*E*R*D* is no more. The Supergroup broke up after a stream of management conflicts at Virgin Records. This is a sad day in music history, N*E*R*D* was a group who broke out of the boundaries of Rock and Roll, mixing the musical genius of the Neptunes (which Chad and Pharell are also part of) with a talented band whose members looked good on paper and sounded great on wax. They could play hip hop, rock, r+b, techno, and just about anything else. The group has no animoisity towards each other and do not cite personal differences as a reason for disbanding the group. On Radio1 (where the split was announced) the group said they might still release songs they record together and bootleg them to the internet. I hope they do this and show that bastard record company that the label does not control the music. Don't get me wrong I would kill for another studio record, but if that means compromise, then fuck it. On the other hand, if no new music ever comes and I am forced to listen to "Fly or Die" and "In search of...." in a constant loop then I will claim the head of a Virgin Music Executive.

If you love producers, and I know you do, then you need to cop that upcoming Motown Remixed album. This album is basically taking 15 Motown classics and remixing them for the Hip-Hop Heads. The album will feature:

Next I highly recommend that you check out an album called Prince Po-The Slickness, now this banger came out in early 2004, when I copped it but I didnt give it a full listen till yesterday, and lets just say I was blown away.

Another coach was fired, this time it was Paul Silas, For some reason he gets no love and is the first to go when a team starts to falter, but one good thing he was able to call Carlos Boozer a cunt last week. His sneaky verbatim will be missed.

In other NBA news.. with a late pass.. Franchise kicked people, coaches got fired, and Stacey Augmon threw lotion.. I Love This Game. Oh and AI is prolly gonna be hit with a supension (WHAT?!!?!?!?)
